Gangdong-gu Health 100-Year Consultation Center Plays Key Role as Guardian of Residents' Health Despite COVID-19
Health 100-Year Consultation Center Operates by Appointment Due to COVID-19... Dedicated Nurses at Dong Resident Center... Chronic Disease Prevention Through Health Measurement and 1:1 Health Consultation
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is operating the ‘Health 100-Year Consultation Center’ to prevent and manage chronic diseases, lifestyle-related illnesses that may be neglected due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Patients with chronic underlying conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease are vulnerable to COVID-19 and face fatal risks if infected. Although the prevention and management of chronic diseases have become more important, the spread of COVID-19 has caused the suspension of health promotion services at health centers in Seoul’s 25 autonomous districts, and it has become difficult to visit medical institutions, putting chronic disease patients’ health management at risk.
Accordingly, Gangdong-gu’s ‘Health 100-Year Consultation Center’ operates by appointment while adhering to quarantine guidelines to prevent and manage chronic diseases.
The ‘Health 100-Year Consultation Center’ was first established nationwide in Gangdong-gu in 2008 and has dedicated nurses in 15 community service centers who conduct health measurements such as abdominal circumference, blood pressure, blood sugar, triglycerides, and good cholesterol, along with one-on-one health consultations to detect chronic disease patients early. Together with doctors, nutritionists, and exercise specialists, the center runs a systematic chronic disease prevention and management program. Last year, despite the COVID-19 situation, 38,564 Gangdong-gu residents used the Health 100-Year Consultation Center, with 33.9% of them showing improved health conditions.
Additionally, for residents who found face-to-face consultations difficult, a three-month Ontact obesity escape program was provided. The ‘Obesity Escape Program’ offered health content videos created directly by public health doctors, exercise specialists, nutritionists, and Health 100-Year nurses, interactive live broadcasts, and one-on-one customized health consultations, minimizing health gaps caused by COVID-19.
The dedicated nurses at the Health 100-Year Consultation Center not only manage chronic disease prevention but also work at screening clinics and respond to COVID-19 infectious disease tasks, playing a vital role as health guardians for Gangdong-gu residents.
