According to Muju Deogyusan Resort on the 21st, the world-renowned pop singer Michael Jackson arrived at the Tirol Hotel by helicopter on November 18, 1997, to discuss investment in Muju Resort and stayed in room 501 for 2 nights and 3 days.
At that time, about 50 police officers were stationed at the entrance on the 5th floor of the hotel, and at Michael Jackson's request, access was completely restricted not only to the general public but also to the press.
While staying in that room, Michael Jackson engraved a message with a pen refill on the wooden bedside table: "LOVE and SAVE OUR CHILDREN. KOREA IS GOD AND MUJU IS LOVE. LOVE always."
It has not yet been confirmed whether this bedside table was destroyed in the recent fire.
Muju Resort commemorated Michael Jackson's stay by calling the room the "Michael Jackson Room" for some time.
Later, in 2001, golf star Park Seri also stayed in room 504 of the Tirol Hotel to enjoy skiing.
The previous day, at 11:04 PM, a fire broke out at the eaves of the wooden structure on the 5th floor of the Tirol Hotel. The fire was extinguished after about 4 hours and 50 minutes. There were no casualties, but as the fire spread to the hotel building, many furnishings including beds were destroyed.
The police and fire authorities believe the cause of the fire was overheating of the chimney connected to a wood-burning stove.
