Gwangju Office of Education Distributes 'School Sports Club Operation Guidebook' Booklet
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is producing and distributing a booklet titled ‘School Sports Club Operation Guide’ to support the development of safe and human rights-friendly school sports clubs.
In particular, an explanatory session will be held for the teachers in charge over four days from the 22nd to the 25th.
According to the Office of Education on the 21st, the ‘School Sports Club Operation Guide’ booklet is systematically organized as a manual for operating school sports clubs, making it easy to apply and utilize in school settings.
It covers overall topics related to school sports club operations, including measures to guarantee student-athletes’ right to learn and protect their human rights, methods and procedures for selecting sports-specialized students, and management of school sports club coaches.
The explanatory session will address the recent sports sector ‘school violence Me Too’ incidents by sharing the importance of sports human rights education with the teachers in charge and promoting democratic school sports club operation methods that respect student-athletes’ human rights, aiming to bring about changes in the field.
The main content includes ‘Human Rights Education Visiting Schools,’ explaining various experiential prevention programs such as discussions and role-playing performances, and also provides guidance on ‘no training day’ programs during weekdays, including supplementary learning, career experience, and reading.
Additionally, along with a comprehensive explanation of school sports club operations, there will be a Q&A session where participants can freely discuss difficulties and improvement measures for ‘Dreaming Student-Athletes, Realizing Dreams through School Sports Clubs.’
The Office of Education is promoting the transition of school sports clubs to specialized sports clubs to establish an advanced school sports club development system.
Measures are also being considered to restrict participation in competitions for student-athletes involved in misconduct and to revoke their qualifications as sports-specialized students.
