3 Confirmed Cases at Samsung Electronics Gwangju Plant... Concerns Over Disruptions in Refrigerator Production
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] A COVID-19 confirmed case occurred at the Samsung Electronics home appliance plant in Gwangju, leading to the factory being closed for three consecutive days.
According to health authorities and Samsung Electronics on the 19th, three employees at Samsung Electronics Gwangju Plant 3 tested positive for COVID-19 the previous day.
After a confirmed case was identified at this location on the 17th, Samsung Electronics shut down the factory and conducted mass testing on about 400 employees. The three individuals who tested positive yesterday were confirmed to be colleagues of the previously infected employee. Since the mass testing is not yet complete, there is a possibility of additional confirmed cases.
This factory produces compressors, one of the key components for refrigerators and water purifiers. If the suspension of operations is prolonged, it is expected that refrigerator production will inevitably face disruptions.
