Funeral with Switched Body in Sydney, Australia... Funeral Company Admits Mistake
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] An incident occurred in Sydney, Australia, where a funeral was held with the wrong body due to a mortuary company's mistake.
According to the Australian daily Sydney Morning Herald on the 17th, during a funeral held on the 12th at a Greek Orthodox Church in Bankstown, southwest Sydney, the deceased's daughter discovered that a stranger, not her father, was lying in the coffin, revealing that the bodies had been switched.
The deceased's wife recounted the situation in an interview with a broadcaster, saying, "My daughter opened the coffin lid to see her father's face one last time, but she was shocked to find another man and screamed."
Due to the mortuary company's error, the funeral was conducted with the wrong body.
It was also revealed that the deceased's body had already been buried in Rockwood Cemetery by another family.
The mortuary company urgently exhumed the body from the grave and returned it to the bereaved family, and took measures to refund all funeral expenses to them.
