People Power Party: "Following Noke Defection, Maritime Defection... Military Must Conduct Comprehensive Review of Surveillance System"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] On the 17th, the People Power Party demanded strict punishment for those involved and a comprehensive inspection of the security system in relation to a North Korean male who defected via the sea.
On the same day, Hwang Gyu-han, the full-time deputy spokesperson of the People Power Party, stated, "Only about three months after the so-called 'fence defection,' where a person easily crossed the GOP fence last November, another North Korean male brazenly bypassed our military's surveillance network and defected," adding, "According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff's announcement yesterday, it was revealed that it took more than three hours after the North Korean male, who expressed his intention to defect, landed on the coast via the sea before he was secured."
Deputy Spokesperson Hwang criticized, "The Joint Chiefs themselves admitted that 'the individual was detected several times by our military surveillance equipment, but appropriate measures were not taken, and the drainage blocking facilities were insufficient,' showing that our military's security posture was powerless," and added, "It is fortunate that the defector was alone; if he had been armed or if there had been multiple North Korean soldiers, just thinking about the threat to our citizens' safety is terrifying."

He further stated, "The Moon Jae-in administration was complacent about security awareness and consistently responded in a makeshift manner whenever military security and surveillance failures occurred, so it is no exaggeration to say that this incident was foreseeable," and criticized, "Strict punishment for those involved is natural, and furthermore, based on a firm security awareness, a comprehensive inspection of the military security system must be conducted, along with measures that can reassure the public."
