[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung Electronics announced on the 17th that it will first introduce the 'Samsung Kiosk,' which supports both contactless ordering and payment, to the domestic market ahead of its global launch in the first half of this year.
The Samsung Kiosk is a product that can be used for selecting products, ordering, and payment at restaurants, cafes, pharmacies, convenience stores, and supermarkets. It is equipped with all necessary kiosk functions including a card reader, receipt printer, QR and barcode scanner, Near Field Communication (NFC), and Wi-Fi.
It is available in three types: table-type, stand-type, and wall-mounted, allowing use according to the store environment. The touch screen surface is coated with a special layer that provides over 99.99% antibacterial effectiveness.
Samsung Electronics explained, "The antibacterial technology applied to the Samsung Kiosk differs from commonly used copper or silver film types in the market, as it does not easily discolor due to oxygen or sulfur components and supports a high transmittance of over 90%, satisfying both antibacterial power and clear image quality."
The Samsung Kiosk is equipped with Tizen, a Linux-based open-source operating system, to enhance compatibility, and applies Samsung Knox, a multi-layered security solution, to protect hardware, payment platforms, and applications from external threats such as hacking.
Samsung Kiosk administrators can manage kiosks installed nationwide in real time through the 'MagicInfo Remote Support' feature. In case of issues, remote control allows for symptom diagnosis and necessary measures.
Samsung Electronics has partnered with payment and financial service solution provider Fiserv to sell the Samsung Kiosk. The plan is to expand sales to overseas markets such as Asia and Australia within the first half of the year.
