Yeongdeungpo-gu, Why Take the Lead in Fostering Young Architects and Supporting Startups?

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is operating a region-led “Youth Architect Development and Startup Support Project” together with Yeongdeungpo Youth Architecture School to nurture young talent in the architectural field and create jobs, and is recruiting young people to participate in the project.
The district aims to foster young architects and urban regeneration activists through the operation of the region-led youth job project in 2021, create a youth-led social job ecosystem by establishing a youth startup culture ecosystem, and actively create and support social jobs led by young people.
Yeongdeungpo Youth Architecture School is a specialized education institution for job placement and startup linkage established in 2018 as the first in a Seoul autonomous district to train skilled workers in the architectural field.
The district, together with Yeongdeungpo Youth Architecture School, recently opened and operates professional architectural technology and startup education programs targeting local youth who are experiencing severe employment difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Any unemployed youth aged 18 to 39 residing in Seoul can apply, and a total of 15 students will be recruited. The tuition is completely free.
The curriculum includes ▲construction technology education such as tile, wallpapering, and interior film installation ▲newly established and operated courses in interior design, CAD, and blueprint design to provide more diverse and practical customized lectures.
Indoor architectural interior education will be held from March 8 to April 23 at the Youth Architecture School and external centers, and construction education such as tile and wallpapering will be conducted at the Youth Architecture School from May 3 to June 1.
The overall schedule and educational content may be flexibly changed depending on the spread of COVID-19.
Additionally, support is provided for acquiring technician certificates in each field, on-site training support through collaboration with the Housing Welfare Center, and home repair-linked education to offer opportunities to gain rich field experience and practical skills.
Furthermore, when participating in the “Youth Architecture Startup Project” contest, support funds of up to 10 million KRW will be provided, and support projects for establishing and starting social economy organizations in the fields of architecture, urban regeneration, and home repair will be continuously operated.
The application period is until February 23, and applicants can download the application form from the Yeongdeungpo Youth Architecture School website and submit it by mail (116 Mullaebuk-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, B110) or email (seoulydp2018@naver.com).
