Incheon Namdong-gu Develops Kimchi Joint Brand Reflecting Local Characteristics
Brand Name Contest Open Until the 2nd of Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Namdong-gu, Incheon, is launching the development of a kimchi joint brand that reflects the region's unique characteristics to revitalize the food industry.
On the 15th, the district announced a contest to name the Namdong-gu kimchi joint brand that encompasses kimchi produced locally.
Anyone can submit one entry until the 2nd of next month. Entries can be submitted online via the Namdong-gu website, by email (jsjmj1@korea.kr), by mail, or in person (Food Hygiene Division, Namdong-gu Health Center).
The district will evaluate submissions based on Namdong-gu's identity and storytelling, harmony of the name, and popularity, then select one grand prize winner (Onnuri gift certificate worth 1 million KRW) and two excellence award winners (Onnuri gift certificates worth 500,000 KRW each). The grand prize name will be used as the Namdong-gu kimchi joint brand name.
In addition to the brand, the district plans to develop products using local specialties such as Sorae Saeujeot (salted shrimp), Cheonil salt, and Namdong pears. The products to be developed will include 3 to 4 types such as napa cabbage kimchi and white kimchi, primarily using Namdong-gu specialties and domestically sourced raw materials.
Accordingly, the district will form and operate a joint brand food development promotion committee including experts. Recently, a preliminary briefing session was held for 226 local food manufacturing and processing businesses to explain the purpose and direction of the development.
The district plans to complete the brand kimchi development by next month and select the final products through a tasting event for residents in April.
Furthermore, the district intends to actively promote joint brand marketing and expand sales channels by operating sales and exhibition booths at local festivals including Residents' Day, requesting purchase cooperation from large discount marts, group meal facilities, and sister local governments.

Lee Kang-ho, Mayor of Namdong-gu, said, "The kimchi joint brand utilizing the region's natural resources and excellent manufacturing businesses will enhance Namdong-gu's image and contribute to economic revitalization. We will actively support efforts to gain consumer trust by linking with 'Namdong Happiness Sharing Kimchi Festival,' which has become a representative festival of Namdong-gu."
