Jeonnam Fire Department, 1,023 Dispatches During Lunar New Year Holiday, Active in Ensuring Residents' Safety

According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) on the 15th, from 6 PM on the 10th to 9 AM on the 15th, a total of 1,023 dispatches were made during the special holiday alert period.
While the number of fire incidents increased by 92.5% compared to the previous year, rescue dispatches decreased by 26%, and emergency medical dispatches decreased by 27%.
The number of fire incidents was 52, a 92.5% increase from 27 incidents the previous year, and property damage also rose by 35% to 131 million KRW. Casualties decreased by 66.6%, from 3 people last year to 1 person.
Rescue dispatches totaled 231, down 26% from 311 the previous year, and emergency medical dispatches were 740, down 27% from 1,013 the previous year.
Due to social distancing measures related to COVID-19 reducing gatherings, rescue and emergency medical activities decreased, while dry weather conditions caused a sharp increase in wildfires and forest fires from 1 case last year to 17 cases.
Among fire locations, wildfires and forest fires were the most frequent with 17 cases, followed by 8 cases in houses, 5 in vinyl greenhouses, 3 in warehouses, 3 in containers, 2 in livestock barns, and 14 in other locations.
On the 10th, a fire at Gayasan Mountain in Gwangyang destroyed 3 hectares of forest and caused property damage worth 12.8 million KRW. On the 13th, a fire caused by negligence in a mountain area in Seungju-eup, Suncheon City, was extinguished with the dispatch of a Jeonnam Fire Department helicopter.
On the 12th, a car-to-car traffic accident in Donggang-myeon, Goheung County, resulted in 5 patients, who were given on-site emergency treatment by the 119 ambulance team and then transported to a nearby hospital.
Additionally, during the holiday period, the emergency situation management center handled 852 consultations for hospital and pharmacy guidance, greatly helping to alleviate residents' inconveniences.
