6 Additional COVID Variant Virus Infections Confirmed...Total 94 Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Six additional people infected with a variant virus known to have higher transmissibility than the original COVID-19 have been confirmed.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 14th, "After analyzing a total of 65 samples, including 34 domestic cases and 31 imported cases, variant viruses were detected in 6 imported cases."
All six newly confirmed cases are Korean nationals infected with the UK-origin variant virus. The countries they departed from are Ghana (4 people), Poland (1 person), and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) (1 person).
Among them, five tested positive during the entry quarantine process, and the remaining one, who was exempt from quarantine, was confirmed positive after testing following entry.
The CDCH reported that after investigating people who had contact with these cases, no additional infections with the variant virus have been identified so far.
In the case of the quarantine-exempt individual, they had contact with 16 coworkers after going to work; all coworkers tested negative and then entered self-quarantine.
