[Asia Economy International Desk Reporter] A magnitude 7.3 earthquake that occurred off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, has reportedly caused over 100 injuries.
According to Japan's NHK on the 14th, the earthquake that struck at around 11:07 PM the previous day resulted in 102 injuries in the Tohoku region, including Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures.
The damage was concentrated in Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures, with many injuries caused by falling or toppled furniture.
A woman in her 60s living in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, suffered fractures after falling on the stairs at home, and in Shirakawa City, 54 people were injured, including an elderly woman in her 80s who was hurt by falling furniture.
In Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, a man in his 80s fell at home and injured his head, and in Higashimatsushima City, 38 people were injured, including an elderly woman in her 80s who hurt her shoulder after falling from a bed.
The earthquake also triggered landslides, blocking roads and causing the collapse of houses in several areas. A fire broke out in an apartment complex in Miyagi Prefecture as well.
Infrastructure operations have also been affected. JR East suspended Shinkansen high-speed train services between Nasushiobara City in Tochigi Prefecture and Morioka City in Iwate Prefecture.
Due to the earthquake, over 900,000 households experienced power outages: 830,000 households in nine metropolitan municipalities mainly supplied by Tokyo Electric Power Company in the metropolitan area, and 91,000 households in Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, and Niigata Prefectures served by Tohoku Electric Power Company.
Kyodo News reported that power outages in the Tokyo Electric Power Company service area were resolved by the morning of the 14th. In various parts of Fukushima Prefecture, water supply was cut off, and authorities are providing emergency water distribution.

Meanwhile, the epicenter of this earthquake was estimated at 37.7 degrees north latitude and 141.8 degrees east longitude, with a depth of approximately 60 km.
