"Engrave My Name as a Tattoo" British Man Attacked with Acid by Obsessive Girlfriend... "Still Haunted by Nightmares"
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] A man who narrowly escaped death after being attacked with sulfuric acid by his ex-girlfriend revealed that he "still has nightmares" even five years later, evoking sympathy.
On the 12th, foreign media including the UK's Daily Mail reported the story of a man who suffered severe burns on more than one-third of his body and lost his eyesight after being attacked with sulfuric acid by his ex-girlfriend.
In July 2016, Daniel Rotariu (35), who lived in Leicester, was attacked with sulfuric acid by his then-girlfriend, Katie Leung.
Daniel and Katie had been in a relationship since December 2015, but Katie, who was twenty years older than Daniel, showed obsessive behavior by demanding Daniel to "delete his social media accounts" and "get a tattoo of my name."
Eventually, after a severe argument with Daniel, Katie poured sulfuric acid on his sleeping face, causing Daniel to lose his eyesight and suffer burns that melted one-third of his body.
Daniel said, "I woke up in excruciating pain as if my whole body was burning. It felt like boiling water was being poured on my face," adding, "I tried to ask for help from someone nearby, but I was barely able to open my eyes."
Daniel immediately began hospital treatment but had to overcome several life-threatening moments. Above all, seeing his disfigured face constantly reminded him of the horrific incident, causing severe stress.
The one who gave him hope was none other than his caregiver, Anna (33). He started a new love with Anna, and currently lives with Anna (33), their son David (3), and stepson Jack (8).
He is gradually recovering his health under the care of his family. He has undergone multiple skin grafts and recently received a pigment implantation procedure on his scalp to make it look like he has hair.
However, he confessed that he still experiences nightmare-like days. He said, "I still have nightmares," and "I cannot go a day without thinking about what Katie did. It's hard to forget," expressing his pain.
