WHO "All hypotheses on the origin of COVID-19 remain open"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) stated on the 12th (local time) that he is open to all hypotheses regarding the origin of COVID-19.
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, said during a virtual press briefing that day, "I want to confirm that we are open to all hypotheses and that further analysis and research are needed."
Director-General Ghebreyesus commented on the recent investigation into the origin of COVID-19 led by WHO and conducted by international experts in Wuhan, China, saying, "Some tasks may fall outside the scope and mandate of the investigation team."
Nevertheless, he added, "The investigation provided a better understanding of the early pandemic situation and identified areas requiring further analysis and research," and "We will continue to work to obtain the information needed for answers."
He also revealed that the COVID-19 origin investigation team, composed of experts from the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, Japan, and other countries, is preparing a report summarizing their findings.

Director-General Ghebreyesus said, "The report is expected to be released around next week." The final report is scheduled to be published within a few weeks.
