First Highly Toxic Blue-lined Octopus Found in Jeju This Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] For the first time this year in Jeju, a blue-lined octopus, which is more than 10 times as toxic as cyanide, has been discovered.
According to the Jeju Coast Guard on the 10th, a report was received at 9:17 PM the previous night from an angler who caught a live blue-ringed octopus at Sinchon Port in Jeju City.
The Jeju Coast Guard immediately dispatched a team to the scene and confirmed the octopus, but it was already dead.
Afterwards, the octopus was collected and stored, and around 11 AM that day, it was handed over to the Jeju Fisheries Research Institute of the National Institute of Fisheries Science for precise species identification.
The Jeju Coast Guard received confirmation that the octopus was a blue-lined octopus species, marking the first discovery of this species in Jeju this year.
