Stick-type cosmetics refer to cosmetics in the form of sticks or cylindrical pillars, such as lipstick, sun stick, and lip balm sticks.
The patent Kolmar Korea acquired in the U.S. is a technology that stably mixes the water-soluble moisturizing ingredient ‘polyol’ into stick-type cosmetics. Generally, stick-type cosmetics with oil-based formulations have the drawback of easily breaking upon external impact when containing water-soluble moisturizing ingredients. This is because the water-soluble moisturizing ingredients, which have a higher specific gravity, settle at the bottom of the product, weakening the hardness in that area.
This patented technology uniformly disperses and stabilizes the water-soluble moisturizing ingredients within the stick-type cosmetics, solving the problem of stick breakage. By enabling the inclusion of a large amount of moisturizing ingredients without concern for breakage, it became possible to launch stick-type products with enhanced moisturizing power.
Additionally, the amount of wax, which was previously used to prevent breakage, can be reduced, resulting in improved spreadability. While increasing wax content helps maintain the cosmetic’s form, it has drawbacks such as reduced spreadability and a stronger wax scent.
The commercial viability of this patented technology has already been confirmed. This technology was applied to a global brand’s stick-type lip balm product in 2016, released domestically, and has been proven by consumers for its product quality.
Kolmar Korea plans to expand the application of this U.S. patented technology to all stick-type cosmetics, including not only lip balm but also stick foundation, moisturizing sticks, stick shadows, stick blushers, and sun sticks, targeting the local market.
