[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Junhyung] The Small and Medium Business Distribution Center under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 10th that its home shopping sales agency business has surpassed cumulative sales of 3.6 trillion KRW.
According to the Small and Medium Business Distribution Center, last year's sales from the home shopping sales agency business reached 423 billion KRW, marking an all-time high. The number of supported companies steadily increased from 361 in 2017 to 456 last year. As of December last year, 5,100 companies were supported, recording cumulative sales of 3.6439 trillion KRW.
The home shopping sales agency business has been conducted by the Small and Medium Business Distribution Center since 2001. It discovers and plans excellent SME products suitable for home shopping, proposes them to home shopping companies, and supports necessary tasks during broadcast launches.
This business has supported SMEs facing difficulties entering home shopping due to lack of experience, professional personnel, and funds to secure sales channels. Efforts have been made to reduce the burden on SMEs by offering lower sales commissions compared to private vendors. There is also a financial support system to facilitate smooth home shopping entry for SMEs. These include an advance payment support system for product production and an advance payment system that provides early payment of broadcast sales proceeds. The center also operates a brand license business, where the Small and Medium Business Distribution Center signs brand usage contracts with brand trademark holders and collaborates with SMEs that have excellent products but lack brands, making it difficult for them to enter home shopping.

The Small and Medium Business Distribution Center established an operation plan for successful SME cases to share sales achievements of the home shopping sales agency business and secure competitiveness, selecting three excellent partner companies in 2020. Hyungseong F&B, which launched 'Boneless Galbitang' and achieved sales of 16.1 billion KRW, and Boseong Corporation, which sells 'Chungcheong Sanghoe Domestic Sesame Oil,' were among those selected.
