Gwangju City Council Member Kim Nayun's Proposed "Beekeeping Industry Promotion Ordinance" Passed in Plenary Session
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The "Gwangju Metropolitan City Beekeeping Industry Promotion and Support Ordinance," proposed by Kim Na-yoon, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party, Buk-gu 6 Yangsan, Geon-guk, Sinyong), was passed at the plenary session on the 8th after passing the relevant standing committee, the Industry and Construction Committee.
Councilor Kim stated, "This ordinance aims to promote the income increase of beekeeping households and contribute to regional economic development by stipulating necessary matters for the stable and sustainable growth of the beekeeping industry," explaining the background of the proposal.
The main contents of the ordinance include the mayor's responsibility to systematically promote and support the beekeeping industry by establishing and implementing the Gwangju Metropolitan City Beekeeping Industry Promotion and Support Plan annually. It also mandates the protection, cultivation, and distribution of melliferous plants that bloom flowers rich in nectar to continuously expand the sources of nectar that attract honeybees.
Additionally, to increase the income of beekeeping households and promote the beekeeping industry, support can be provided for the installation of beekeeping-related facilities and equipment, processing facilities for beekeeping products and by-products, breeding and distribution projects for new honeybee breeds, and projects necessary for the management stability of beekeeping households.
In particular, the ordinance provides for the training of specialized personnel necessary for the promotion and support of the beekeeping industry and allows for the promotion of international cooperation and overseas market entry by facilitating international exchange and joint research of technologies and personnel related to the beekeeping industry.
