Jeonnam Province Recruiting Participants for 'Farmer Salary System Support Project'
Application Deadline Until the End of June
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 7th that it is recruiting candidates for the '2021 Farmer Salary System Support Project.'
The Farmer Salary System is a program that supports farmers by evenly distributing their income throughout the year, which is usually concentrated during the agricultural product harvesting season, allowing farms to have more financial flexibility.
It has been promoted as a special policy under the administration of Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeonnam Province since 2019 as part of his campaign pledges during the 7th local government.
The application period for this year's project is until the end of June.
Farms registered as agricultural management entities with an address in the province and engaged in contract farming of certain scale crops such as rice, apples, and garlic with local agricultural cooperatives are eligible to apply.
To revitalize the Farmer Salary System, the province increased the maximum monthly payment from the original 2 million KRW to 2.5 million KRW starting this year to provide practical support for farm management.
Since the project began, a total of 7,334 farms in the province have participated and received about 1.5 billion KRW in interest support benefits up to last year.
Selected candidates will receive an advance payment of up to 2.5 million KRW per month, which is 60% of the purchase price paid by the agricultural cooperative, and the province along with city and county governments will compensate the interest incurred from the advance payment.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the agricultural departments of city and county offices or the Agricultural Policy Division of Jeonnam Province.
Son Myung-do, head of the Agricultural Policy Division of Jeonnam Province, said, "Farmers suffer from financial difficulties throughout the year except during the autumn harvest season," and added, "Farms that need stable financial management are encouraged to use the Farmer Salary System to support their farming activities."
Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province has been steadily improving the system to allow more farms to participate. Since last year, the application criteria area for rice was lowered from 4,100㎡ to 3,500㎡, and the minimum payment amount was reduced from 300,000 KRW to 200,000 KRW.
