Discussion on Camp Walker Fence Setback... "Full Opening of 3rd Ring Road Also Actively Promoted"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Negotiations with the Ministry of National Defense to return the site of the 'US Military 47th Supply Depot' on Taepyeong-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu, back to the citizens are gaining momentum.
According to Daegu City on the 7th, since requesting negotiations for the relocation of military facilities to the Ministry of National Defense last November, the final conclusion of the Ministry of National Defense's 'negotiation progress' regarding the relocation project of the 'US Military 47th Supply Depot' site, which underwent operational review by the US military, review of national property, and feasibility study by the Ministry of National Defense, was delivered on the 5th.
The relocation method will be conducted as a 'donation in exchange for transfer' project. When the 47th Supply Depot site is returned to Daegu City, Daegu City will provide alternative facilities through negotiations with the Ministry of National Defense.
The negotiation details also include retreating the west side fence of the unopened section of the 3rd Ring Road by 10 meters toward Camp Walker, so the full opening of the 3rd Ring Road is expected to be actively promoted.
For the smooth progress of the 47th Supply Depot relocation negotiations in the future, close cooperation among the Ministry of National Defense, which is the main agency for the relocation negotiations, the US military as the facility user, and Daegu City as the negotiation party is a priority.
Kim Chung-han, Director of Daegu City's Future Space Development Headquarters, stated, "Following the return of the Camp Walker helicopter site, we will promptly complete the remaining procedures with the Ministry of National Defense to secure the road site for the 47th Supply Depot and the disconnected section of the 3rd Ring Road," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that the site is returned to the citizens who have waited for a long time as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, about 90% of the 47th Supply Depot site (9,917㎡) located on Taepyeong-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu, is owned by the Ministry of National Defense. The US military has been using this site as a supply warehouse since 1947.
