Gwangju City Selected for 'Smart Public Museum Construction Project' Competition
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 5th that its "Artificial Intelligence Docent Robot System" was selected in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Korean New Deal project, the "Smart Public Museum Construction Project."
The "Smart Public Museum Construction Project," promoted as part of the government's Korean New Deal initiative, provides visitors with a unique cultural experience service by developing new museum content applying advanced technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution era.
With Gwangju selected in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's contest, a total project budget of 200 million KRW (100 million KRW from the national government and 100 million KRW from the city) will be invested to introduce exhibition services using AI docent robots at the Gwangju History and Folklore Museum.
In particular, the AI docent robot is equipped with personalized exhibition explanation functions tailored to each visitor through AI facial recognition and deep machine learning (deep learning), and it complements the limitations of existing exhibition guide robots by applying lighting-linked screens, wireless earphones, and a battery exchange system.
Additionally, it provides visitor accompaniment exhibition explanations (Docent Escort).
Gwangju City expects that the big data accumulated through robot operation will contribute to the revitalization of the Gwangju History and Folklore Museum and the Jungoe Park cultural facilities.
Kim Jun-young, Director of the City’s Culture, Tourism and Sports Office, said, "The AI docent robot will be an opportunity for citizens to tangibly experience Gwangju’s AI policies," and added, "We will strengthen the position of the Asian cultural hub city through the convergence of AI and culture."
