[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chae-seok] Lee Seong-hee, Chairman of the NongHyup Central Association, visited the NongHyup Guri Wholesale Market in Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do on the morning of the 5th to check the supply status and price trends of seasonal holiday products and encouraged the on-site staff who are taking responsibility for the 'Great Transformation of Agricultural and Livestock Product Distribution.'
On this day, Chairman Lee inspected the shipment volume and auction prices of seasonal holiday products such as apples and pears at the Guri Wholesale Market, and expressed his gratitude by delivering rice cake soup sets to wholesale dealers and unloading teams working in distribution at the market.
The 79 agricultural product wholesale markets nationwide operated by NongHyup are the largest distribution channels where about 25% of domestically produced agricultural products are traded. As of last year, they distributed 2 million tons and 4.2838 trillion KRW worth of agricultural products across the country over one year.
Starting this year, in line with the trend of expanding non-face-to-face transactions, NongHyup plans to strengthen the online sector in addition to existing wholesale functions by expanding the online agricultural product exchange and newly promoting an exclusive online food material mall for wholesale dealers.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, NongHyup is operating the 'Agricultural and Livestock Product Supply Countermeasures Situation Room' and the 'Comprehensive Food Safety Situation Room' to continuously monitor the supply status of seasonal holiday products such as apples, pears, radishes, and napa cabbage, ensuring consumers can purchase our agricultural and livestock products with confidence.
Due to decreased agricultural production and soaring prices caused by the winter cold wave, NongHyup is increasing the supply volume of seasonal products compared to normal times by utilizing contract cultivation quantities to stabilize prices and support price levels.
