Spoon Radio Records Item Sales of 83.7 Billion KRW Last Year
Personal Audio Broadcasting Services... Over 70% Growth Compared to 2019
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Spoon Radio (CEO Choi Hyuk-jae), which operates the real-time personal audio broadcasting platform 'Spoon,' announced on the 5th that its annual item sales reached 83.7 billion KRW last year.
Thanks to strong overseas performance in Japan and other countries last year, Spoon grew more than 70% compared to the 40 billion KRW recorded in 2019. Japan surpassed Korea for the first time, accounting for more than 50% of total item sales, and Spoon Radio is now on the verge of entering the 100 billion KRW annual sales era.
Spoon attributes this growth to changes in living environments such as social distancing campaigns and the expansion of remote work due to COVID-19, which led to increased digital content consumption and online communication. In fact, the cumulative listening time per user on Spoon increased by 44% compared to the previous year, and the number of live broadcast channels newly created rose by 82% to 34 million.
As COVID-19 prolongs, Spoon plans to increase investment in original content production and strengthen multi-party communication and recommendation features to provide users with higher quality broadcasts, focusing on increasing both listening time and user satisfaction.
