From this month until May 15, Spring Wildfire Prevention Activities Underway...Operation of Wildfire Prevention Headquarters, Suppression Drills Focused on Nearby Mountains...Installation of Wildfire Suppression Equipment Storage Boxes, Combined with Wildfire Prevention Promotion Campaign
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) will begin spring wildfire vigilance starting this month.
The district announced that it has designated the period from February to May 15 as the "Spring Wildfire Prevention Period" and is entering a full-scale wildfire prevention system.
Due to the dry weather in spring, the risk of wildfires is very high, and this measure aims to prevent forest damage caused by fires and maintain a pleasant forest environment.
To this end, the district has established a Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters and will enter a full emergency duty system during the spring wildfire prevention period.
The emergency duty team, consisting of 31 members, will be divided into seven groups and operated, maintaining monitoring in the duty room even after working hours to establish a 24-hour surveillance system.
The main tasks include ▲ wildfire suppression training and wildfire prevention campaigns ▲ wildfire monitoring activities and inspection of firefighting equipment ▲ maintaining cooperation systems with related wildfire agencies ▲ establishing a suppression system including initial firefighting and backfire monitoring in case of wildfire occurrence ▲ and rapid reporting of firefighting situations.
In case of wildfire occurrence, 36 ground firefighting personnel will be urgently deployed for initial suppression, and an auxiliary firefighting team of 120 members has also been organized in preparation for emergencies.
Large-scale wildfire suppression training will be conducted mainly in nearby mountains with many visitors such as Gaehwasan and Ujangsan, together with related agencies including Gangseo Fire Station, Gangseo Police Station, and volunteer firefighting teams. This is to enhance wildfire suppression capabilities and strengthen cooperation with related agencies.
Additionally, to improve early response capabilities to wildfires, wildfire suppression equipment storage boxes have been installed at 25 locations including major trail entrances and ridgelines. Two high-pressure hose equipment storage boxes have also been placed to enable quick connection of fire hoses within forests where water supply is difficult.
Along with this, the district plans to conduct a wildfire prevention publicity campaign by using CCTV-type black boxes in wildfire-prone areas for 24-hour monitoring and recording to preemptively block wildfire causes.
A district official stated, "We will do our best to protect the precious lives and property of residents through this wildfire prevention activity," and added, "For wildfire prevention, residents' participation is most important, so we ask for active cooperation in wildfire prevention by prohibiting carrying flammable materials when going to the mountains."
