As Deliveries Increase, Used Motorcycle Transactions Also Rise... Junggonara "Annual Scale of 400 Billion KRW"
Approximately 500 Used Motorcycle Listings Registered Daily... Market Size Increases by Over 130 Billion KRW Compared to Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] As the delivery market expanded due to COVID-19, the used motorcycle market also saw significant growth last year.
Used goods platform Junggonara announced on the 4th that the scale of used motorcycle transactions expanded to about 400 billion KRW, an increase of more than 130 billion KRW compared to the previous year, based on an analysis of last year's used motorcycle transaction status. On the Junggonara platform, an average of about 470 used motorcycles were registered daily last year, with an average monthly transaction volume of approximately 33.4 billion KRW.
The expansion of used motorcycle transactions on Junggonara was driven by an increase in transactions of small motorcycles under 125cc, which can be used for various purposes such as leisure and delivery. Among these, transactions related to "delivery" showed a significant increase. For example, in December last year, there were more than 12,000 searches related to "delivery" on the "Motorcycles under 125cc" board within the Junggonara Naver Cafe. Related keywords used when registering used motorcycles also saw a large increase in terms such as "delivery motorcycle" and "delivery."
According to Junggonara's analysis of last year's used motorcycle transaction status, the manufacturers with the highest transaction volumes were Honda, Yamaha, BMW, Daelim, and Suzuki, in that order. The most popular model was Honda's "Super Cub," with an average of 750 transactions per month. This model was traded at around 1.2 million KRW per unit in January last year, but by December, the transaction price rose to 2.16 million KRW, increasing by more than 1 million KRW.
A Junggonara official explained, "The scale of motorcycle transactions on the Junggonara platform was about 270 billion KRW in 2019, but increased by 131.3 billion KRW to about 401.3 billion KRW in 2020. As delivery-related businesses expand due to COVID-19 and demand for part-time labor continues to grow, the used motorcycle transaction market is expected to continue expanding for the time being." He added, "Since motorcycles have a high transaction price per unit, we are continuously strengthening transaction monitoring to ensure safe transactions."
