Chungnam Provides a Total of 70 Billion KRW Support to 69,000 Businesses Including Restaurants and Cafes
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A total of 70 billion KRW in disaster relief funds will be distributed to approximately 69,500 businesses in the Chungnam region. Each business will receive between 1 million KRW and 2 million KRW in disaster relief funds. Additionally, corporate taxi drivers newly included in this support will receive 500,000 KRW each.
On the 4th, the province announced that it had decided to provide additional disaster relief funds locally to support self-employed individuals and small business owners who have been struggling due to the prolonged social distancing measures.
The additional disaster relief fund will be equally shared between the province and 15 cities and counties, each bearing 50% of the cost. The support targets facilities registered within the jurisdiction that were subject to assembly bans and business restrictions as of December 29 of last year, covering 30 industries and 69,578 businesses (individuals).
Businesses that closed or suspended operations before the assembly ban and business restriction administrative orders, or those that violated the administrative orders, are excluded from the support.
First, the province will provide 2 million KRW per business (increased from the previous 1 million KRW) to 1,802 businesses in seven types of assembly-ban facilities, including entertainment bars, karaoke bars, colatecs, hunting pubs, and emotional bars.
Additionally, 6,5081 businesses in 22 types of business-restricted facilities will receive 1 million KRW each, totaling 65.081 billion KRW. Business-restricted facilities include restaurants, cafes, bakeries, lodging facilities, bathhouses, beauty salons, karaoke rooms, PC rooms, arcades/multi-rooms, performance halls, funeral homes, academies and tutoring centers, reading rooms/study rooms, wedding halls, and indoor sports facilities.
In particular, the province and 15 cities and counties have decided to support 2,695 corporate taxi drivers, who had previously been overlooked in disaster relief, with 500,000 KRW each, totaling 1.348 billion KRW.
Applications for support can be submitted from the 4th to the 9th of this month by visiting the relevant city or county department responsible for each industry or via email or fax. After the application period closes, the province plans to complete the disaster relief payments between the 8th and 10th, before the Lunar New Year holiday, following a review process.

Meanwhile, due to the extension of social distancing level 2, on December 29 of last year, the province issued assembly bans on seven types of entertainment facilities and business restrictions on 22 types. These administrative orders have been extended until the 14th due to the continued occurrence of COVID-19 confirmed cases.
