Jeonggwanjang Hongsamton, 1 Trillion Won Sales Over 10 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Jeonggwanjang’s ‘Hongsamton’ has surpassed cumulative sales of 1 trillion won over the past 10 years.
KGC Ginseng Corporation announced on the 4th that Jeonggwanjang Hongsamton sold 1 million sets last year, pushing cumulative sales over the past decade beyond 1 trillion won. It recorded the second highest sales following Jeonggwanjang ‘Hongsamjeong,’ with an average annual sales of about 100 billion won.
Jeonggwanjang Hongsamton is a complex herbal liquid pouch brand made primarily from red ginseng concentrate combined with various medicinal herbs. Since its launch in 1993, it has been a representative steady seller of Jeonggwanjang, loved for nearly 30 years. It has maintained its popularity since surpassing 100 billion won in annual sales in 2011.
In particular, about half of Hongsamton’s total sales occur during holidays such as Lunar New Year. It is favored by people of all ages due to its smooth liquid pouch form, and its luxurious red-gold packaging makes it highly popular as a gift.
Recently, the product was renewed with the price frozen, while the content of three precious mushrooms (white oyster mushroom, shiitake mushroom, and lion’s mane mushroom) was increased about twofold compared to before, making it a representative gift product that satisfies ‘value for money.’ During last Chuseok, it ranked first among products most preferred by Jeonggwanjang customers.
With the temporary relaxation of the Kim Young-ran Act during this Lunar New Year holiday, products such as ‘Hongsamton Gold (160,000 won)’ are included in the gift price limit, and sales are expected to increase further. Jeonggwanjang ‘Hongsamton Gold’ is made primarily from 6-year-old red ginseng concentrate combined with various plant-based ingredients such as jujube, angelica, and mushrooms.
If the strong taste of Hongsamton Gold is unfamiliar, there is the milder ‘Hongsamton.’ Hongsamton contains 6-year-old red ginseng concentrate along with plant-based ingredients such as peony, cham-danggui, astragalus, and cnidium, making it easy to consume even for those new to red ginseng.
In spring, ‘Hongsamton Cheong’ for throat health is also popular. ‘Hongsamton Cheong’ is made primarily from 6-year-old red ginseng concentrate with added ingredients such as clematis, lilyturf root, milk skin, and balloon flower. It contains herbal extracts that provide a refreshing feeling in the throat when consumed, making it a favorite among consumers during periods of high fine dust.
