Korea-IAEA Discuss North Korean Nuclear Issues and Fukushima Contaminated Water
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Park Il, Director General for Nuclear Energy and Nonproliferation Diplomacy Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited Austria for three days starting from the 1st and held meetings with officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Secretariat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 3rd.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the North Korean nuclear issue and major nuclear nonproliferation matters, agreeing to strengthen communication and cooperation on related issues.
They also agreed to continue cooperation in the field of nuclear safety and held consultations on the issue of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.
Additionally, both sides decided to hold regular policy consultations in the future to implement more systematic cooperation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "This bilateral consultation with the IAEA is significant as it involved face-to-face diplomacy with the international organization that holds the highest authority in the fields of nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear energy, despite the COVID-19 situation."
