'Judicial Scandal Judge Impeachment' Support 44.3% vs Oppose 45.4% [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Opinions were sharply divided over the impeachment motion against 'Chief Judge Im Seong-geun,' who was accused of unconstitutional actions interfering in the Sewol ferry-related trial.
According to Realmeter's announcement on the 3rd, based on a survey commissioned by OhmyNews conducted on the 2nd with 500 respondents aged 18 and older, 45.4% opposed the 'impeachment of judges involved in judicial corruption.' Supporters accounted for 44.3%, and 10.3% responded that they were unsure.
By region, in Gwangju and Jeolla, support and opposition were 59.9% vs. 27.9%, showing a majority in favor, while in Daegu and Gyeongbuk (18.1% vs. 61.4%) and Seoul (38.8% vs. 51.3%), opposition was higher.
By age group, support was highest among those in their 40s and 30s at 57.7% and 47.7%, respectively, whereas opposition exceeded half among those in their 60s and 70s at 54.4% and 53.5%, respectively.
Opinions on the impeachment of judges involved in judicial corruption were noticeably divided by ideological inclination.
Among progressives, support and opposition were 67.8% vs. 23.2%, favoring impeachment, but among conservatives, opposition was higher at 57.7% vs. 29.7%. Centrists showed 37.1% support and 54.6% opposition.
