On the 24th (local time), according to the Daily Mail and other sources, a couple self-isolating in a house in Heilongjiang Province, China, tied their pet dog to a long leash and took it for a walk outside the window.
They made a leash about 18 meters long by tying together old clothes and other fabrics to walk their dog from the third floor of their apartment (about 12 meters high). They lowered the dog onto the street through the window and pulled it back up through the window after the walk.
The dog's owner claimed that this was the only option since they could not go outside during self-isolation. They said to local media, "We used to take the dog for a walk three times a day, but when I couldn't go out, the dog kept barking," and "I thought about how to walk the dog and came up with this idea."
However, as this news spread through social media, netizens criticized the act, saying it was "dangerous," "irresponsible," and "extremely risky to lower the dog outside the window and pull it back up with a leash."

Meanwhile, although it has been a year since the lockdown of Wuhan due to COVID-19, China continues to implement policies such as additional lockdowns and strict management penalties to prevent the spread of infection. Provinces such as Heilongjiang, Beijing, and Jilin imposed lockdown measures in some areas due to a resurgence of COVID-19, and in mid-last month, more than 22 million residents of Hebei Province, adjacent to Beijing, were placed under full lockdown.
