According to the Wonju Fire Station on the 31st, the fire occurred around 3:05 a.m. in a densely populated residential area in Myeongnyun-dong, Wonju City.
The fire claimed the lives of A (73, female, Filipino national) and her 9-year-old granddaughter and 7-year-old grandson, totaling 3 people. B (32, Filipino), the mother of the deceased children, and C (65), who lived in the house where the fire first started, sustained burns and are receiving treatment at a hospital.
B's husband is reported to be living apart from the family due to work.
The fire completely destroyed two houses and burned about half of two other houses before firefighters extinguished it after about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
The fire occurred in a highland area with densely packed houses, making it impossible for fire trucks to enter, so firefighters used ground fire hydrants to suppress the fire.
