View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The 2021 school life record entry guidelines feature enhancements to evaluation records according to social distancing levels and an expansion of subject groups that can be assessed via performance videos during remote classes to all subjects.
In the '2021 Academic and Curriculum Operation Support Plan' announced by the Ministry of Education on the 28th, the student record entry guidelines include methods for observing both the process and results of performance when operating in-person and remote classes.
Based on high schools, evaluation and recording criteria are detailed according to social distancing levels. Written and performance assessments, as well as subject-specific special notes, remain the same across three levels, but creative activities and behavioral special notes are differentiated from level 3. From level 3, creative activities such as clubs and career-related activities can include remote class content, and behavioral special notes can include quantitative records. At levels 1 to 2.5, teachers write observations and evaluations.
The scope of entries has also been expanded. Remote class content can be recorded alongside observations and evaluations made during in-person classes. Additionally, the range of remote classes, usable educational activity materials, detailed subject abilities, and mandatory subjects for special notes have been increased. Subjects that can be evaluated via student performance videos during remote classes have been expanded to all subjects.
In line with the purpose of blind processing of student records, the school life record must not include any information that reveals the high school the student is enrolled in (or expected to graduate from), except for 'academic status,' 'awarding institution' in awards, and 'location or organizing institution name' in volunteer activity records. Information that reveals the school, such as school name, foundation name, school festival name, or school nickname, has been added to the list of prohibited entries.
Regarding self-reported student records, materials that students directly prepare under teacher guidance during school educational activities and can be used for student record entries include peer evaluations, self-evaluations, class outputs (including performance assessment results), reflections, and book reports.
Awards are largely similar to last year. It was added that awards based on achievements prohibited in the 'Precautions for Writing School Life Records' will not be recorded in the school life record. Award names must not include information that reveals the high school the student is enrolled in (or expected to graduate from). For current 11th and 12th graders, only one award per student per semester will be provided when advancing to higher education, and from the 2024 academic year admissions (including graduates), 'award records' will not be provided when advancing to higher education. Regarding certificates and certifications, it is specified that they will not be provided as admission screening materials, consistent with last year.
From the 2024 academic year admissions, individual volunteer activity records, autonomous club achievements, and youth group activities outside the regular school curriculum will not be provided in creative activities. From the 2024 academic year admissions, gifted and invention education achievements will also not be provided in special notes when advancing to higher education. For reading activity status, if both the original book and Korean translation are read, duplicate entries are not allowed, and from the 2024 admissions, this information will not be provided.

Lee Manki, director of Uway Education Evaluation Research Institute, explained, "Examinees should familiarize themselves with the 2021 student record entry guidelines and especially strive to complete student records more thoroughly by observing this year's in-person or remote class situations. They should also prepare for blind evaluation of student records by ensuring that the records objectively stand out rather than relying on the school's halo effect."
