UK Raises Border Threshold, Bans Entry from UAE and Rwanda... Concerns Over Variant Virus Influx
Mandatory 10-Day Self-Quarantine for British Nationals and Others
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The UK has included the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Burundi, and Rwanda in the list of countries banned from travel due to concerns over the influx of COVID-19 variant viruses.
According to foreign media on the 29th (local time), Grant Shapps, the UK Secretary of State for Transport, announced on Twitter that the UAE, Burundi, and Rwanda would be added to the travel ban list.
As a result, entry will also be prohibited for all individuals departing from or transiting through these countries. Entry will be allowed for UK citizens and foreign nationals residing in the UK, but they must undergo self-quarantine for 10 days.
The UK government plans to suspend direct flights departing from Dubai starting from this day to prevent the influx of variant viruses.
