Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "Korea-Iran Communicating on Frozen Funds... Including Expansion of Humanitarian Trade"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is communicating with Iran on meaningful measures, including the expansion of humanitarian trade, regarding the Korea Chemi seizure and the issue of frozen Iranian funds between Iran and Korea.
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the 28th, "It is true that there are communications between Korea and Iran, including relevant institutions such as the United States, regarding the frozen funds," adding this.
The official said, "There are various communications on how meaningful measures can be derived, including the expansion of humanitarian trade," but refrained from providing specific details.
Regarding plans to communicate with Jung Park, the newly appointed Deputy Minister for East Asia and Pacific Affairs and Director-General for North America, who is a Korea-related North Korea expert, the official said, "Of course, between Korea and the United States, there is a principle of close communication at all levels, including at the presidential level, since the inauguration of the Biden administration," adding, "I believe there will be communication."
