KDI Enters Top 5 Global Think Tanks Excluding the US
Ranked 5th Excluding the US and 16th Including the US Among 11,175 Institutions Worldwide
The Only Asian Institution Listed as Best in Two Categories

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Development Institute (KDI), celebrating its 50th anniversary, ranked 5th excluding the United States and 16th including the United States in the '2020 Global Think Tank Rankings.' This marks an improvement of one and three places respectively compared to last year.
KDI announced on the 28th the results of the think tank evaluation conducted by the University of Pennsylvania's Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP), which surveyed 11,175 institutions worldwide.
The overall think tank rankings were announced based on recommendations and surveys from scholars, policy officials, journalists, and experts in various fields, as well as evaluations by expert panels.

View original imageIn category-specific evaluations, rankings for policy-oriented research (5th → 4th) and public policy influence (43rd → 42nd) each improved by one place compared to last year.
Additionally, KDI ranked among the top in 14 major categories including international development (Best), institutional management (3rd), domestic economic policy (9th), international economics (10th), and social policy (13th).
For the second consecutive year, KDI was the only institution in Asia to maintain the 'Center of Excellence' status in two categories.
KDI was separately inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Asia Country category (1st place for six consecutive years since 2013) and the International Development category (1st place for three consecutive years since 2016).
Choi Jung-pyo, President of KDI, said, "It is very meaningful that KDI has been internationally recognized for its influence as a representative think tank of the Republic of Korea."

President Choi added, "As KDI celebrates its 50th anniversary, we will focus our research capabilities on establishing an advanced country-type economic paradigm to support the next 50 years."
