Gangdong-gu Child Autonomy Center 'Kkumiso' 8th Branch Established
Gathering Residents' Opinions to Create a Space Convenient for All Generations, Including 1st and 3rd
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) has established the 8th branch of the Gangdong-style child-friendly facility, the Children's Autonomy Center "Kkum Miso," at the Saengil-dong Genae Senior Center.
Kkum Miso is the nation's first remodeled senior center that serves as a shared space for local seniors and children and adolescents across the 1st and 3rd generations. It operates as a senior center during the day and from 4 PM to 10 PM, after the seniors return home, it functions as a dedicated space for children and adolescents.
The newly established 8th branch was created by gathering opinions from senior center elders, local residents, children, and child welfare officials, prioritizing safety while ensuring convenience of use. It applies universal design reflecting the physical characteristics of both the 1st and 3rd generations. It will open according to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.
The district has been installing and operating Kkum Miso since 2017 to resolve child care issues and support safe autonomous activities for children. Currently, eight locations have been established in the Gildong, Cheonho-dong, Amsa-dong, Myeongil-dong, Dunchon-dong, and Saengil-dong areas, with plans to add four more by 2022.
