Yeosu-si to Develop Hwajeong-myeon Nangdori Area as an Ecological Green Tourism Hub
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 27th that it will develop the Nangdo-ri area in Hwajeong-myeon as an eco-tourism hub in response to the increasing number of small group tourists and the tourism trend of ‘healing’ and ‘rest’ in nature.
The city secured a total of 228 million KRW, including 114 million KRW in national funds, for the Nangdo-ri area in Hwajeong-myeon.
The Nangdo-ri area in Hwajeong-myeon is designated as Natural Monument No. 434, including dinosaur footprint fossil sites, and boasts beautiful coastlines and columnar joints, making it an ideal natural geography learning site.
Through the ‘Ssamok Ssamok Romantic Nangdo’ project, the city plans to operate various experience programs where visitors can enjoy rest in pristine nature, linked with the already established Jeollanam-do ‘Desirable Island Development’ project and the ‘Seomseom Yeosu - Nangdo Gaengbeon Art Road Project’.
Starting in March, a village community council will be formed centered on the DMO (Destination Management Organization), and together with island travel experts, various programs will be operated such as ‘Meeting of Art and Nature,’ ‘Nangdo Festival’ (Namjang Yeo-jang Festival), storytelling at the ‘Nangdo Jeot Saem Makgeolli Brewery,’ ‘Dinosaur Footprint Field Experience,’ school-linked educational programs like ‘Rest,’ and ‘Sinsundae’ for meditation.
Additionally, natural playgrounds, rest areas, and photo zones will be installed along the trail course, and healing programs will be operated within the rest areas to provide visitors with a genuine experience of relaxation in nature.
A city official stated, “By sharing the profits generated through tourism with residents and developing tourism products linked with Goheung, we aim to promote mutual growth with neighboring cities and counties, as well as contribute to revitalizing the local economy,” adding, “We will strive to expand various tourism resources and new tourism content for Yeosu as a sustainable global marine tourism and leisure city.”
