People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy "POSCO and CJ Logistics Must Fulfill Social Responsibility by Appointing Independent Directors"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Civic groups have urged POSCO and CJ Logistics to fulfill their social responsibilities by appointing public interest directors.
On the 27th, the People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy, the National Action for Strengthening Public Pensions, and the National Courier Workers' Union held a press conference in front of the POSCO headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, stating, "They suppress the constitutionally guaranteed right to form labor unions and ignore the voices of citizens suffering from environmental pollution." They claimed, "POSCO underwent six labor department inspections between 2018 and 2020, yet industrial accidents have not decreased, making it a primary candidate for the Serious Accidents Punishment Act."
On the same day, these groups also held a press conference in front of the CJ Logistics headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, criticizing, "In 2020 alone, six industrial accidents occurred, and four in 2018, but the CJ Logistics board of directors neither investigated the causes nor proposed measures to prevent recurrence."

These organizations also demanded that the National Pension Service, the major shareholder of POSCO and CJ Logistics, require the appointment of public interest directors. They explained, "The National Pension Service should firmly oppose the appointment of directors who show no interest in improving and normalizing POSCO's corporate governance and recommend public interest directors. For CJ Logistics, they must hold the company accountable for industrial accidents and demand the appointment of public interest directors to enforce measures preventing deaths from overwork."
