Gwangju City Improves Over 20 Public Restrooms to Be Barrier-Free... Targeting More Than 20 Locations
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 27th that it will improve more than 20 public restrooms this year to be ‘barrier-free public restrooms’ so that anyone can use them comfortably and safely.
The city plans to invest 400 million won by the end of this year to prioritize the improvement of aging public restrooms in places with high foot traffic such as parks, traditional markets, sports facilities, and tourist attractions.
In particular, this project is meaningful in that it was selected as a ‘2021 Citizen Participation Budget New Project,’ with citizens participating in the entire process from project proposal to budget allocation.
The ‘Barrier-Free Public Restroom Improvement Project’ focuses on improving walkways and entrances to the level of ‘Barrier-Free (BF)’ certified facilities, and installing braille blocks and braille guide signs so that all citizens, including children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and pregnant women, can conveniently use public restrooms.
Gwangju City has obtained Barrier-Free (BF) certification for 23 public restrooms, including the public restroom at Wolsan 2 Children's Park in Nam-gu.
In addition to the barrier-free public restroom renovation project, Gwangju City plans to promote various projects such as ▲construction and renovation of public restrooms ▲renovation and convenience item support for privately opened restrooms.
