The Administrative Coordination Committee is a government committee under the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, established pursuant to Article 168, Paragraph 1 of the Local Autonomy Act.
It plays a role in promptly and efficiently consulting and coordinating when the heads of central administrative agencies and local governments have differing opinions in handling affairs. The term of office is two years.
Former Chairman Yoon has experience in national metropolitan city and provincial council affairs and central government policies, having served as chairman of the National Association of City and Provincial Council Chairpersons during his tenure as chairman of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council. He is a former member of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (dismissed teacher), served as chairman of the Gwangju Education Committee, and was co-chairman of the Gwangju Election Committee for Moon Jae-in’s presidential candidacy in 2017.
Attorney Lim currently serves as the first female president of a local bar association nationwide and has served as a government work evaluation committee member under the Prime Minister’s Office and as a member of the Ministry of Justice’s Prosecution Past Affairs Committee. She has held positions such as head of the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society and president of the Gwangju Women’s Minwoo Association, and has been active as a human rights lawyer representing marginalized groups and immigrants.
Their appointment as members is regionally significant, as local political circles explain that when there are disagreements or disputes between the central government and local governments or institutions regarding administrative affairs of basic and metropolitan local governments in the Honam region, as well as universities and city/provincial education offices, they can represent local governments and institutions.
Meanwhile, the committee’s composition includes ex officio members such as the Minister of the Interior and Safety, Minister of Strategy and Finance, Minister of Government Legislation, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, and four members appointed by the Prime Minister who have extensive knowledge and experience in local autonomy, along with the relevant ministry ministers and governors of each city and province.
