The late high schools in the equalization areas within the jurisdiction consist of 28 schools (11 in Mokpo, 7 in Yeosu, 10 in Suncheon) with a total authorized class count of 227. The number of students to be assigned by lottery by school district for the 2021 academic year is 1,701 in Mokpo, 1,311 in Yeosu, and 2,032 in Suncheon, totaling 5,044 students.
School assignments are conducted by a method of applying first and then lottery. The assigned students are divided into general assignees by grade and priority assignees. In Mokpo and Suncheon, students are assigned by random computerized lottery up to 100% of the quota by school grade in order of their 1st to 7th choice schools, and in Yeosu, from 1st to 4th choice schools.
Priority assignees are assigned to their first-choice school regardless of grade. Priority assignees include students with special athletic talents, students from multi-child families, students with physical disabilities, students with disabled parents, students with disabled siblings, students who are heads of households at a young age, and children of national merit recipients who apply outside the quota.
This lottery assignment ceremony for late high schools in the equalization areas was held the previous day without external observers to prevent COVID-19 infection. It was conducted as an online video conference connecting the Provincial Office of Education and the education support offices of Mokpo, Yeosu, and Suncheon, attended by officials from the Provincial Office of Education and the High School Admission Lottery Management Committees of Mokpo, Yeosu, and Suncheon. The assignment lottery results showed that the assignment rates for the 1st and 2nd choice schools were 87% in Mokpo, 84% in Yeosu, and 80% in Suncheon, meaning most students were assigned to their desired schools.
The assignment results can be checked individually by accessing the Provincial Office of Education website at 10 a.m. on the 25th. The affiliated middle schools will provide the information through the NEIS high school admission system. Assignment notices will be individually distributed by the students' middle schools, and each high school plans to provide guidance on registration and freshman orientation through their school websites and SNS.
