Gwangju Innovation Promotion Committee Forms and Operates Special Committee for Improving Integrity Culture
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Innovation Promotion Committee directly under the Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chairman Ju Jeong-min) formed a Special Committee for Improving Integrity Culture on the 22nd and held its first meeting to concretize innovation plans for ‘Improving Integrity Culture.’
The Special Committee for Improving Integrity Culture is composed of 15 members, including external experts in fields such as personnel, subsidies, and budget, to prepare innovation plans for ‘Improving Integrity Culture’ in response to receiving the lowest nationwide rating for two consecutive years in the public institution integrity evaluation conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission. The committee plans to operate until next month.
The Special Committee for Improving Integrity Culture is the fifth special committee formed since the Innovation Promotion Committee was launched in November 2018, following the Public Institution Innovation Special Committee, Welfare Innovation Special Committee, Culture and Arts Special Committee, and Climate Crisis Response Special Committee.
At the meeting, Professor Ju Jeong-min of Chonnam National University was elected as chairman, and discussions were held on the specific scope of tasks and implementation methods for improving integrity culture.
First, as key tasks for improving integrity culture, major internal and external causes of poor integrity such as personnel, subsidy support, and unfair work instructions were identified. Working meetings involving field experts will be held at least once a week, focusing on experts for each task, and various opinions and advisory procedures will be gathered on policy alternatives prepared through these meetings.
The innovation plans for improving integrity culture prepared by the special committee will be re-discussed at the full meeting of the Gwangju Innovation Committee and finalized as recommendations of the Gwangju Innovation Committee in February, which will then be recommended to Gwangju City.
Gwangju City, which receives recommendations from the Gwangju Innovation Committee, will establish and implement specific promotion plans within three months, and the Gwangju Innovation Committee will continuously monitor the progress.
