[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…This year's PGA Tour AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will feature only players.
On the 15th (Korean time), the Associated Press reported, "Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), celebrities will not participate." Steve John, the tournament director, explained, "It is disappointing, but we had to make this decision," adding, "We believe we did the right thing." The state of California demanded "the cancellation of the format where professionals and amateurs compete together." California is currently the region with the highest number of new COVID-19 cases.
The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is celebrating its 75th edition this year. It is famous for its tradition of golfers competing alongside celebrities such as entrepreneurs, entertainers, and athletes from other sports. Movie actor Bill Murray, singer Justin Timberlake, NFL stars Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have participated. In 1997, 'Golf Emperor' Tiger Woods (USA) played in a group with Hollywood star Kevin Costner.
