"Im Jong-seok says 'Board of Audit and Inspection has gone too far'... Opposition: 'Is protecting our side the mission of the Board of Audit and Inspection?'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Following the Board of Audit and Inspection's audit on the appropriateness of the procedure for establishing the Basic Plan for Power Supply and Demand, which reflects the nuclear phase-out policy, former Blue House Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok criticized it as "crossing the line," prompting unified criticism from the opposition parties.
On the 15th, Yoon Hee-sook, a member of the People Power Party, questioned on Facebook, "The Board of Audit and Inspection, which wants to do its job, is being told it 'crossed the line.' Is 'protecting our side' the mission of the Board of Audit and Inspection and the 'line' that must be observed?" This was in response to former Chief of Staff Im's Facebook post criticizing the Board's audit as "crossing the line" and saying, "It smells like the Yoon Seok-yeol prosecution."
She stated, "The Board of Audit and Inspection said it would audit whether the nuclear phase-out policy was established in violation of legal decision-making procedures. We should just wait for the audit results and judge the legality, not argue about it," adding, "From the start, political oppression against the opposition or the previous government can be appealed, but the very idea of a political audit against the 'government' is ridiculous."
Yoon said, "The Board of Audit and Inspection's main task, according to the Constitution and the Board of Audit and Inspection Act, is to supervise the executive branch's duties. Although it is part of the executive, its reason for existence is to monitor the executive," and questioned, "Then, when they say 'crossing the line' and 'going too far,' is the 'line' and 'limit' that 'our side appointed them, so they keep silent about our side'?"
She added, "In short, their 'our side' mentality means that to protect our side, they must lightly trample on the core systems that uphold the nation," and said, "It is embarrassing that the ruling party is making a fuss when the Board of Audit and Inspection is just doing its job."
Kim Geun-sik, a professor at Gyeongnam National University and a preliminary candidate for Seoul mayor from the People Power Party, also criticized on Facebook, saying, "It seems that people from the Moon administration particularly like 'smells.' Is it a 'smelly regime'?"
He pointed out, "Former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon sent a text message about a smell to his female secretary, which is too embarrassing to even mention; broadcaster Kim Eo-jun, who claimed conspiracy theories behind Grandma Lee Yong-soo's press conference and babbled about 'smells'; and Jeong Cheong-rae of the Democratic Party, who cheered 'Don't be scared' while making self-deprecating jokes about 'smells' to Kim Eo-jun," and added, "Seeing former Chief of Staff Im also stepping up to criticize Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung by saying 'it smells,' it seems the Moon administration is indeed a smelly regime."
