Seodaemun-gu Promotes 'Digital Tutor' Project to Bridge Educational Gap
Dispatching about 150 digital tutors to 40 local elementary, middle, and high schools from March to December this year... Supporting smooth non-face-to-face online classes and operation of informatization classrooms... Recruiting participants aged 18-39 for 'Digital Tutor' program until the 19th of this month
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is promoting a so-called ‘Digital Tutor’ project to prevent the digital divide caused by remote classes from leading to educational disparities.
The district is investing about 3 billion KRW of its own funds to dispatch approximately 150 digital tutors to 40 elementary, middle, and high schools in the area during the semester from March to December this year.
These tutors guide students attending online classes at school through emergency care, assist teachers with video editing and data analysis, and help facilitate smooth non-face-to-face classes.
They also support creative experiential learning and the operation of informatization classrooms to enhance students’ digital capabilities and learning satisfaction.
Previously, in response to the unprecedented online school opening last year, the district was the first nationwide to provide tablet PCs to students eligible for educational welfare, and installed online devices and wireless communication equipment in local schools to create an educational environment suitable for non-face-to-face situations.
Additionally, from September to December last year, through a pilot project, 28 digital tutors were dispatched to six schools, and interviews with school teachers and surveys of participating instructors showed high satisfaction.
Meanwhile, the district is recruiting digital tutors aged between 18 and 39.
Applicants can download the participation application form from the notice section of the Seodaemun-gu Lifelong Learning Center website, fill it out, and send it by email (yiseul@sdm.go.kr) by 6 p.m. on the 19th of this month.
The selection process includes a first round of document screening and a second round of interviews. Preference is given to those with knowledge of digital learning-related software and devices, and those with experience supporting schools.
Applicants must choose between working 3 hours or 6 hours per day, five days a week (Monday to Friday).
Successful candidates will undergo job training at the Seodaemun-gu Convergence Talent Education Center and field training at schools before working as digital tutors.
In addition to this project, Seodaemun-gu plans to actively promote ▲analysis of educational sites and identification of vulnerable families in the area ▲support for digital infrastructure, devices, and content ▲various care services.
