Successful First Cultivation of Subtropical Crops in Pohang... Full-Scale Shipment of 'Hallabong' Three Years After Planting
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Pohang City announced on the 14th that it will begin full-scale shipment of Hallabong from January at the subtropical crop cultivation farm (Han Chiyong's farm) in Mangcheon-ri, Heunghae-eup, Buk-gu.
This Hallabong shipment farm planted 500 Hallabong trees on 0.3 hectares and 400 banana trees on 0.2 hectares in 2017 with support from Pohang City's subtropical crop project funds. This is the first full-scale shipment of Hallabong about three years after planting.
On the 14th, Mayor Kangdeok Lee of Pohang visited the Hallabong cultivation farm, helped with harvesting and packing delivery boxes, and encouraged the farm that first challenged subtropical crop cultivation in Pohang.
The Hallabong being shipped this time boasts an average weight of 330g, sugar content of 14.5 Brix, and acid content of 0.78%, according to Pohang City's own quality inspection results. Considering the standards of over 200g weight, 12 Brix sugar content, and acid content below 1.1%, it is evaluated as high-quality Hallabong.
