Some of the Missing 14.5 Billion?…81 Billion Found in Another Customer's Safe at Jeju Casino
Police "Comparing Banknote Serial Numbers"
Prime Suspect Missing After Taking Leave
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Recently, while 14.56 billion KRW in cash disappeared from Jeju Shinhwa World Landing Casino, approximately 8.15 billion KRW in cash was found in a customer's safe.
On the 13th, the Jeju Provincial Police Agency stated, "While over 14.5 billion KRW went missing from the Jeju casino, 8.15 billion KRW was discovered in another safe in the VIP customer storage area."
The police are considering this amount as part of the recently missing funds and are comparing it with previously stored money.
Additionally, the police found tens of billions of KRW in cash at the residence of A (55), a Malaysian national and the missing finance executive, and are investigating the source. However, the amount found at A's residence is reportedly far less than the initially missing 14.5 billion KRW.
Earlier, Jeju Shinhwa World filed a complaint against A on the 5th, reporting the loss of 14.56 billion KRW, and the police began investigating after receiving the case on the 7th.
The police have requested cooperation from Interpol to secure A's whereabouts, are reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, and are also investigating whether there are any accomplices.
A took a vacation at the end of the year and has been out of contact for about a week. The police believe A has already left Jeju and departed abroad.
The police believe that since A worked from the beginning at Landing Casino, operated by Lamjeong Entertainment Korea (Lamjeong Korea) under the headquarters Landing International in Hong Kong, it was relatively easy for A to access the safes.
According to the casino industry, the safes used in casinos are special safes that require both the customer's key and the company's key to open. The police stated, "We are investigating all possibilities, including the possibility that money was moved from customers' safes to safes accessible by A."
