GM Unveils Electric Delivery Integrated Solution 'BrightDrop' for the First Time
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] General Motors (GM) announced a new business called 'BrightDrop' on the 12th (local time) during the keynote speech at '2021 CES,' marking the first time in the electric vehicle industry to help transportation and logistics companies transport goods more efficiently.
BrightDrop encompasses an ecosystem of electronics, software, and services designed to help companies reduce costs and maximize productivity while improving employee safety and cargo security, as well as supporting overall sustainability efforts.
Mary Barra, GM Chairman and CEO, stated, "BrightDrop offers a smarter way to deliver goods and services," adding, "Based on GM's extensive expertise in electrification, mobility applications, telematics, and fleet management, we are building a new one-stop-shop solution for commercial customers to transport goods in a more sustainable way."
GM expects the market opportunity for parcel delivery, food delivery, and reverse logistics in the U.S. to exceed $850 billion by 2025. According to the World Economic Forum, demand for last-mile delivery in urban areas through e-commerce is projected to increase by 78% by 2030, with delivery vehicles in the world's top 100 cities expected to increase by 36%.
BrightDrop plans to develop an integrated solution set to meet this rapidly growing demand while reducing the environmental impact, improving nearly every aspect from the start to the end of delivery.
