Sancheon-eo Faces Sales Block Due to Winter Festival Cancellation
Meal Kits Sold at Lotte Department Store Mall and Nowon Branch
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Lotte Department Store is taking the lead in revitalizing the economy of Hwacheon, where the winter Sancheoneo Festival was canceled, by partnering with Gangwon Province.
Lotte Department Store announced on the 13th that from the 14th to the 31st, Sancheoneo from Hwacheon County, Gangwon Province, will be sold on the Lotte Department Store Mall within Lotte ON, and from the 15th to the 19th, at the food hall of Lotte Department Store Nowon Branch. This initiative was prepared to help sell the Hwacheon Sancheoneo, whose sales channels were blocked due to the cancellation of the winter festival caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Sancheoneo is a salmonid fish that inhabits only pristine first-class water areas. It has a mild and savory taste and is a winter delicacy that can be enjoyed raw, grilled, or as a spicy fish stew.
At the event, Sancheoneo will be offered as a convenient meal in a processed state so that customers can easily cook it at home without having to visit the Gangwon Hwacheon winter festival site in person. A set of five grilled Sancheoneo (fresh fish) is priced at 15,000 KRW, a Sancheoneo meal kit suitable for braising or spicy fish stew is sold at 11,000 KRW per pack, and a set of two meal kits (one for braising and one for spicy fish stew) is sold for 20,000 KRW.
Additionally, a live broadcast has been prepared to help customers become more familiar with the somewhat unfamiliar ingredient, Sancheoneo. The live broadcast will take place on the 14th at 6:30 PM with popular YouTuber ‘Bapgubnam’ at the Sancheoneo festival site near the Bukhan River in Hwacheon County before COVID-19. The broadcast will introduce how to cook the meal kits and vividly convey the taste of Sancheoneo braised and spicy fish stew. Customers who send purchase verification photos during the broadcast will receive coffee gifticons on a first-come, first-served basis. Bapgubnam, who appears as a panelist, is a wild mukbang specialist YouTuber with 1.3 million subscribers.
Since August last year, Lotte Department Store has signed a business agreement (MOU) with Gangwon Province and has been actively supporting the sale of excellent agricultural and specialty products from Gangwon through various win-win events.
