Turkey to Begin COVID-19 Vaccinations with Chinese-Made Vaccine as Early as the 14th
Turkish President Recep Erdogan announced at a press conference in Istanbul on the 8th (local time) that a large-scale COVID-19 vaccination campaign will soon begin. Turkey has agreed to purchase 50 million doses of the Chinese vaccine and secured an initial 3 million doses on the 30th of last month.
Turkey will begin administering Chinese-made COVID-19 vaccines within this week.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said after the Cabinet meeting on the 12th (local time), "COVID-19 vaccinations will start according to the designated order from Thursday (14th) or Friday (15th)."
Turkey has decided to import 50 million doses (single-dose units) of the COVID-19 vaccine from the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac.
On the 30th of last month, 3 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine were imported, and the Turkish Ministry of Health plans to start vaccinations after a 14-day trial period.
Turkey has also agreed to import up to 30 million doses of the vaccine jointly developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German company BioNTech.
The Turkish government is enforcing curfews on weekdays at night and on weekends to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The number of new confirmed cases in Turkey over the past 24 hours was 10,220, with a cumulative total of 2,336,476 cases.
